How much does it cost to charge a Tata Tiago EV?

Short answer

19.2 kWh pack: 21.5 units at the meter, about Rs 151 at Rs 7 per unit. 24 kWh pack: 26.9 units, about Rs 188. If your variant has a 3.3 kW onboard charger — several do — then a 7.4 kW wallbox charges it no faster and the money is better spent on earthing and protection.

Cost per full charge

19.2 kWh: 19.2 x 1.12 = 21.5 units, so about Rs 108 at Rs 5, Rs 151 at Rs 7, Rs 194 at Rs 9.

24 kWh: 26.9 units, so roughly Rs 134 to Rs 242 across the same range.

For a city car that mostly covers 30 to 50 km a day, the real daily bill is often under Rs 60.

Monthly running cost

Assume 800 km a month and around 7.5 km per kWh of battery energy: that is about 107 kWh into the battery and roughly 120 units at the meter.

At Rs 7 per unit the month costs about Rs 840. A petrol hatchback covering the same distance would burn roughly Rs 5,000 or more in fuel.

The onboard charger decides the right wallbox

Some Tiago EV variants are listed with a 3.3 kW onboard charger and others with a faster option. Verify for your car.

If yours is 3.3 kW, the 19.2 kWh pack takes 19.2 ÷ 3.3 = 5.8 hours plus 10 to 15 percent, roughly 6.5 hours from empty. A 7.4 kW charger would deliver exactly the same result.

Do not over-buy the charger for a small battery

Tiago owners are often sold a 7.4 kW unit when both the car and the building's load point to 3.3 kW.

A smaller charger means a smaller circuit, cheaper cable and less strain on a shared apartment supply. Spend the saving on a proper earth and the right protective device — that is where it actually protects you.

Frequently asked questions

What does it cost to charge a Tiago EV at home?

About Rs 151 for the 19.2 kWh pack and Rs 188 for the 24 kWh pack at Rs 7 per unit, after allowing for charging losses.

Is a 3.3 kW charger enough for a Tiago EV?

Yes for most owners. The 19.2 kWh pack fills in about 6.5 hours from empty, and if your variant's onboard charger is 3.3 kW a larger wallbox adds nothing.

How much does a Tiago EV cost to run per month?

Roughly Rs 840 a month for 800 km at Rs 7 per unit, against about Rs 5,000 or more in petrol for a comparable hatchback.
