How much does it cost to charge a Tata Punch EV?

Short answer

25 kWh pack: 25 x 1.12 = 28 units, about Rs 196 at Rs 7 per unit. 35 kWh pack: 39.2 units, about Rs 274. Per kilometre at home that is roughly Rs 1 to Rs 1.2. Check whether your variant has a 3.3 kW or 7.2 kW onboard charger before buying a wallbox.

Cost per full charge

25 kWh: 28 units at the meter — about Rs 140 at Rs 5, Rs 196 at Rs 7, Rs 252 at Rs 9.

35 kWh: 39.2 units — about Rs 196 at Rs 5, Rs 274 at Rs 7, Rs 353 at Rs 9.

For daily use you will only replace 40 to 60 percent of that, so a typical session is roughly Rs 110 to Rs 165 on the larger pack.

What it costs per kilometre

Assuming about 7 km per kWh of battery energy in mixed driving, each kilometre needs about 0.16 units from the wall — roughly Rs 1.12 per km at Rs 7 per unit.

City driving with light air-conditioning use can do better than that. Highway speeds with the AC running will do worse.

Public DC costs about three times as much

Putting around 36 kWh into the 35 kWh pack at the reported KSEB DC day rate of about Rs 19.47 per kWh costs roughly Rs 700. At the reported night rate of about Rs 27.41 it is closer to Rs 990.

Private operators may charge more, so check the app before plugging in.

Charging time and the right charger

Check whether your Punch EV variant has a 3.3 kW or 7.2 kW onboard charger — a bigger wallbox cannot push past that limit.

On 3.3 kW, the 25 kWh pack takes 25 ÷ 3.3 = 7.6 hours plus 10 to 15 percent, so around 8.5 hours. That still fits a normal night comfortably. On 7.4 kW with a 7.2 kW-capable variant, the same pack takes about 4 hours.
