How much does it cost to charge an MG Comet EV?

Short answer

A full charge costs about Rs 136 at Rs 7 per unit: the 17.3 kWh pack needs 17.3 x 1.12 = 19.4 units from the wall. Per kilometre it is often under Rs 1. The Comet is commonly listed with a 3.3 kW onboard charger, so a bigger wallbox cannot charge it any faster.

Cost per charge and per kilometre

At Rs 5 per unit a full charge is about Rs 97; at Rs 7 about Rs 136; at Rs 9 about Rs 174.

Small, light and mostly driven in the city, the Comet can return 8 km per kWh or better in gentle use. That means about 0.14 units per km from the wall, or roughly Rs 0.98 per km at Rs 7. Heavy air-conditioning use and highway speeds will raise it.

A 3.3 kW charger is the right answer here

Verify for your variant, but the Comet is commonly listed at 3.3 kW AC. From empty, 17.3 ÷ 3.3 = 5.2 hours plus 10 to 15 percent gives about 6 hours.

Most owners never start from empty, so 3 to 4 hours is a typical session. Buying 7.4 kW for this car buys nothing at all unless you are planning for a future vehicle.

The portable cable may be enough, if the wiring is right

The Comet's low charging power makes it a good match for a dedicated 16 A socket on its own circuit.

What matters is a correctly rated socket, a proper earth and residual current protection — not a wallbox for its own sake. What a fixed charger adds is metering, RFID and scheduling, which is exactly what apartment billing needs.

Impact on your monthly bill is small

At 600 km a month and 8 km per kWh, the car needs about 75 kWh in the battery, or 84 units at the meter. That is roughly Rs 590 at Rs 7 per unit.

It is unlikely to push most households into a higher slab, though it is still worth checking your slab structure before you assume.
