How much does it cost to charge a Mahindra XUV400?
Share
Short answer
34.5 kWh pack: 38.6 units, about Rs 270 at Rs 7 per unit. 39.4 kWh pack: 44.1 units, about Rs 309. The XUV400 has been offered with both 3.3 kW and 7.2 kW onboard chargers — that single fact decides whether a 7.4 kW wallbox is worth buying.
Cost per full charge
34.5 kWh: about Rs 193 at Rs 5, Rs 270 at Rs 7, Rs 348 at Rs 9.
39.4 kWh: about Rs 221 at Rs 5, Rs 309 at Rs 7, Rs 397 at Rs 9.
A typical daily 30 to 90 percent session is about 60 percent of those figures.
Monthly cost, and the slab warning
Assuming 5.5 to 6 km per kWh, 1,200 km a month needs 200 to 218 kWh in the pack, or 224 to 244 units at the meter. At Rs 7 that is roughly Rs 1,570 to Rs 1,710.
That volume of units can move a household into a higher tariff slab, which raises the cost of all your electricity, not just the car's. Check your slab structure before assuming the lowest rate.
Charging time by variant
- 7.2 kW onboard charger: the 39.4 kWh pack takes about 5.5 hours plus 10 to 15 percent, so roughly 6 to 6.3 hours from empty
- 3.3 kW onboard charger: the same pack takes about 13 to 14 hours, which is a long night
Verify which one your car has before you choose a charger — it is the difference between a sensible purchase and a wasted one.
Match the wallbox to the car, not the brochure
If your XUV400 has the 7.2 kW onboard charger, a 7.4 kW single-phase unit is the right match — the PowerPod Lite 7.4 kW at Rs 45,000.
If it has 3.3 kW, spending more on a 7.4 kW charger only helps if you plan to change cars soon. Buying for the next car is a reasonable decision, as long as you know that is the reason.
